Well it's hard to gain concrete views on our squad from a pre season kick about but I'll try and give a few views I had.
For a pre season there was quite a few heavy tackles goign in from both sides with Crofts Holt and Tierney suffering for us (I think it's been reported that Crofts was the worst hit) and Eastwood for Cov being clattered and then pulling up with a hammy.
IN the first half both sides knocked it around nicely enough, though our midfield never looked right, Martin at the tip didn't move like Wessi does, whilst Korey just had one of those games where his touch just left him. KoS kept things moving without being able to bomb forward and I was a little surprised that Cov didn't manage a goal. Our goal in the first minute came from a nice passing move, Holt was taken out in the area and before a pen could be given Wilbers slotted home.
I was impressed with Aaron who ran around as if Lambert has told him he may make the bench. Holt looks to be carrying a bit of weight and was throwing himself around which will either get us many a FK or him many a booking. Other than that De Lait looked excellent but a pretty standard half.
Second half arrived and some new people arrived next to me (there is reason for this mention which I'll come to). The flow was disrupted by the subs but the new players stepped it up a notch. the midfield was more settled with Wes and Johnson running the show. Johson took a sickening fall from a corner, which we thought might have been a dislocated shoulder but after abour 3 minutes treatement he dusted himself down and cracked on! Jackson and Morisson looked exceptional and already have an understanding of each other, I for one think that they should lead the line at Wigan. Then came Bennett, the people who moved next to me were his family who seemed very happy with his display and the team in general, his partner (I presume) kept saying how good he looked in yellow and that it really suited him (!) which made us chuckle. He looked very sharp and whever he got the ball we looked dangerous, he has a great turn of pace and the cross for our second was as good as his finish for the third.
Overall a comfortable win, a few points for Lambert to consider (Ruddy flapped more than once and spilled a couple of simple saves which will get the GK moaners out again) I think Weds and Sat we'll see what's likely to start wat Wigan and it'll probably give more anyway back to cricket and F1
