It's been a year since I was last there...

but I walked around that area day/night on a weekly basis for a couple of years and never had a problem. If somebody bumps into you, don't expect them to say sorry...I guess it might be aggressive in that sense. Don't get yourself involved in anything silly and you should be fine. Chances are if you live in any big city long enough and you travel about on your own you will have incidents. I had 2 incidents in 7 years but neither were in that area. Be alert, get to know your bus routes and surroundings well before getting f**ked up. Take note of the buses you see coming through and the road names. Take a few buses in the day-time is a good way of getting a map of London in your head. 2 of my best friends (2 girls) live in Dalston at the moment, they haven't had any incidents in a year to 18months of living there.
