Well I lived very close to there for 2/3 years...

and nearly all my friends moved there as well. Great spot as your close to plenty of bars and plenty of things to do. Bus/train/tube to and from Oxford Street within 30mins at non peak times, maybe less at night in the week. Always busy these days and when the tube station opens up (if it hasn't already) will only get busier. It's not quite as dangerous as some areas and for me there are plenty more intimidating areas to the north and to the south. Huge multi-cultural area so a brilliant range of food options...markets, takeaways and restaurants. I lived quite near Old Street station which is about a 15/20min walk south of where you are and I felt like I was in the best spot in London.
