totally agree with you below that this has been cleared with the club. tallys exactly with what I'd heard.

s'ppose there is a tiny possibility that worthy wants to keep him and is doing this to scare off suitors (football is a small world and this WILL get around).

but I think much more likely is that the deal is already done. and worthy is giving him the send-off he thinks he deserves (and also trying to minimise any stick he gets from the fans about selling him. which I don't think is something he needs to worry about...)
