deffo sounds like the aeriel you're using is not disgital TV compatible. Aeriels are banded so they only see a certain section of the UHF spectrum. It could be your box is only picking up the signals from the digital multiplex that falls within that UHF spectrum.

Answer = a multiband/digital TV aerial.
