I admire Cameron for trying to change that

Though I agree with you that he may be pissing in the wind

I didn't get the Big Society thing till I heard a radio interview with a bloke who owns a greasy spoon in Oxford which Cameron used to have brekkie in as a stooodent. He said how Cameron was a regular, chatted to him, found out he had small children, offered to babysit, and when babysitting taught his kids to read and do basic maths. The bloke said something on the lines of "he was a posh bloke and there wasn't anything in it for him but he did it because he likes helping people"

When I heard that I thought - THAT's Cameron's idea for the Big Society. He wants everyone to share that sort of conscientious attitude to life.

Trouble is, he doesn't seem to be aware that there are an awful lot of people who don't believe in helping others, and that not everyone has his own approach to life
