The type of players Lambert goes for are those who buy into his ideology, he's not going to put the effort into signing someone if he's worried their head is going to be turned easily, he values commitment very highly. Just look at how quick he was to get rid of players liek Whaley, who is now back in the championship, had something about him but wasnt commited enough for Lambo.
