from what i'm hearing in accounting circles, they've paid their due.
their is often issues between legal arguments and accountancy arguments - such as the concept of "substance over form".
HMRC took one view, Vodafone's accountants the other.
With the black hole thats been created it certainly isn't the case that HMRC is being soft in this case or any other I've come across. They are being very thorough in their investigating now compared to 2-3 years ago.
