People kept voting for Thatch because she did things they liked

They liked the Falklands: short, clear cut, victorious (cf Iraq)

They liked breaking the power of the unions and beating Scargill (cf the 3 day week and the winter of discontent)

They liked home ownership, and rising house prices, and a booming economy

She had lots of popular (or populist) policies for a long time

It was John Major they voted in because of (a) habit for voting Tory and (b) lack of credible alternative. Not Thatcher.
