Raging against the dying of the light...

A posse of hardened wrathwarriors descended on London via an obscenely early train on Saturday. We were wary, worried and weary, but this did not deter us. "As long as we don't get humped" seemed to be the generally agreed feeling as we settled down.

Garrrry Brooke was armed with a selection of snacks to last the train journey - strangely shaped sweetbreads and a portion of the most foul-smelling brie you'd ever want to put anywhere near your mouth. Plus crisps of every flavour. MBK had had his breakfast in the bath at 6:43 that morning, so was foodless, as was Yellalee, who had his flatscreen out on the table quick sharp to start off the collective nerding / t**tting / brief wrathing. I had a Louis' Deli special sandwich which provided the bedding for the first beers - Diss at 9:20 providing a beautiful backdrop. We were happy, and happier still when we convinced Garrrrrrrrry to dispose of the brie. Landlocked in by the window, he aggressively refused, so I did the deed. As I carted the offensive cheese off to the bin other passengers must have been wondering if I'd soiled myself; the bloke standing by the bin looked at me as if I'd just ruined his day. I probably had.

Conversation moved on, a little racy but never over-stepping the mark. Until the subject of sex dungeons came up. Suffice to say, you can never be too far from a dildo.

More beers at Liverpool Street, then the Argyll Arms, by which time the posse was growing in number and decreasing in sobriety. Tricky and Otto were part of the group by now. Plus Jamie from Lynn and others. A copy of France Football was bandied around the table. God, how suave and cool we must have appeared to the passing multitudes.

Thence to the game. Located in the corner near the QPR fans we had an excellent view of the action. So good that I celebrated, thinking Wes's pelanty had gone in and looked a right t**t. There was plenty of banter (I love that word) with the QPR fans, culminating in Garrrrrrrrrrrrrry shouting "c**ts!" loudly in my ear. One of the day's highlights.

As for the game itself, we kept the team who so far this season have been unstoppable easily at arm's length and had Grant Holt been a little more comfortable shooting on his left foot we could well have extended the 32-away-game-scoring-streak.

After the game off to Shepherd's Bush, more beers in the O'Neill's there, where Lee and I decided we are going up. Definitely. No messing. We also decided to ignore Tricky's advice about tube timings and then miss our train. So we got on the next one. Then, basically, we corpsed it and slept like babies. So it was off to the Coach and trying to drink on, but although the spirit was willing, the flesh was weak: the powder is still dry for Tuesday and Saturday.
