It is believed the miners will never speak of the 17 days after the mine collapsed. Those dark days when nobody on the ground believed they could still be alive until a borehole was drilled all the way down to their refuge and rescuers found out they were all still alive. One of the miners' wives has told of unspeakable things that went on down there and that the miners had 'taken a pledge of silence'.

The miners have called in a lawyer to organise plans to sell their story in such a way that they will all profit equally by disclosing to the world's media what went on down the mine during those two months. The men have already rejected the idea of giving interviews to to reporters and will jointly write a book about the days trapped half a mile below the Atacama Desert in Chile.
