jesus, a lot of the football back then was dire by comparison, even at the top of the prem. I used to enjoy an inept display on a pitch rendered useless by thick cloying mud.
Thing was that back then, even if the game was s**t you'd all make it fun with the chanting etc. Nowadays you rely on the football being good because the chanting isn't as ubiquitous as before. I can hardly remember anything about the actual football in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I have much more vivid memories of the crowd antics
