Do all the islands - but at least Burano and Murano and the Cemetary island. Another tip

is that when in Venice - of course you'll want to go to Piazza San Marco etc, but in general wander around (careful not to get lost which is easy!) and find a square which is more out of the way. Suddenly you go from prices which are higher than even the Place de la Sorbonne to quite cheap for meals, wine etc, and a really nice atmosphere.

There are lots of those little squares around Venice, and most don't venture to them. I just found some by accident the second time I was there.

Oh, and the restaurant where the gondoliers go. Hidden and not well known but fantastic ! Cannot remember the name of it for the life of me though.
