I assume you mean the part about Walker rather than Ribbeck. I'm always mystified as to why Walker's managerial career after leaving us the first time was such a disaster: it can't just have been down to not having Dixie with him, can it?

That said, at times he was unlucky with us second time round - Flem and Iwan turned out to be great signings, just not for him, and some of the youngsters he brought into the squad - Green, Bellars, Kenton - really flourished soon after he left.

That said, that was no excuse for signing Peter Grant (over Bakero!) or Victor Segura (over Bakero!) - and especially not for pairing him with Mike Milligan. Ugh.

Interesting, too, that it mentions Ian Crook and Carlton Palmer - possibly the two most different English central midfielders in the top flight at that time. I always felt that Chippy was unlucky not to get at least a run-out for England: it would have been interesting to see how Barnes or Waddle, for example, thrived on his long, accurate passes from in front of the defence.

That said, playing Crook and Gazza together in central midfielder might not have worked. Crook and Platt while Gascoigne was injured, though ...
