Looks Like...?

Lambert made a bold tactical decision in going with this perceived 4-2-3-1 formation, the idea being extra cover for the back four as well as plenty of width-and, for whatever reason, it didn't come off.

If it had have done and we'd have won, he would have been the greatest tactic genius since Michels and the 1974 Holland World Cup side presumably? He isn't (yet!) but, at the same time, it not working doesn't mean, nor justify some stick for him in trying.

Its early in the season, and he's still looking for alternatives to the 4-1-2-1-2 diamond, maybe, after last night, the other formation has been filed in WPB? But it was as good a time to try it as any, its not something you leave until March/April, especially when players will be pretty much set in stone in the "established" way of play for that season.

Time to move on. Think he might go back to 4-4-2 at Preston, especially as Rusty will have briefed Taggart Jnr on the diamond!
