I do keep promising myself that I'll sort a bike out; but never do...

Any recommendations? Be just using it for getting to/from work and the odd longer trip so don't need a 20 grand pro affair.

Someone here said don't get one with derailleur gears because in the winter they get all gunged up. I thought "you cycle in winter you mad ideot?!"
