Was he allowed to sign quality players to long term contracts?

He had very little to work with.

He sold more (in money) in transfers than he spent on transfers. Thats a fact.

The silly wage structure was in place at the club before he arrived.

He could of gone the route we were forced into when we got relegated of having to get a mass of free agents or smaller fees.

When Roeder arrived the squad was really poor, Grant walked because he knew he had made some bad mistakes.
The only option Roeder had was to take a flyer on loans.......

Unfortunately it worked!

He performed the great escape, the second season was full of injuries but also many bad loans that didnt work out as they had in the first season.

Too many players had poor seasons as well.

Roeder only delayed the rot at the club by one season, he didn't cause it.

As much as we all want to carry Lambert on our shoulders he stepped into a good siuation.

We had a very good squad (for LG1) and more money than most LG 1 teams.

He hasnt really been tested in the transfer market yet.

Most of his signings so far have been squad players.

I think we all get carried away by how bad or good someone is based on recent memories rather than facts.
