Fair enough. If they reckon it'll do it.

The worry is that the chip would move away from the centre of the ball, and thereby send misleading signals, but you could guarantee against that by having a few secondary chips right up against the skin of the ball, and use those to triangulate the position of the "centre" chip. If they detect that the chip is moving about inside they send a "this ball is broken" signal to headquarters.

I still reckon all of this is going to change the physics of the ball though.
