he scores goals, which is why he's always picked. And he could have had three yesterday, but did nothing else.

He's a good player, but most of what he does for Chelsea is lay simple passes to better players, and then pop up with lots of goals.

There aren't many 20-goal-a-season midfielders about. You'd be made not to play him at club level. But he doesn't have the same licence for England and he doesn't have Essien, Deco etc alongside him.
