Re: Michael Nelson (aka Lord Nelson or The Admiral)

My opinion is that he is VERY similar to Malky. Now, before we all get misty-eyed about Malky, if we actually remember back properly, when malky first joined Norwich he struggled for a full 2/3 to command a regular starting berth. It was only under Worthy, and thanks to the long-term injury to Emblen, that he became a regular choice.

In the first 2/3 years at the club, he was, quite literally, a cart-horse. He regularly got turned. His distribution was awful. What happened? Slowly but surely, Worthy and his coaching staff went about coaching him and getting him to play to his strengths.

Ultimately, Malky never became a ball-playing centre half. He hoofed when necessary and when he had more time on the ball, gave it to Drury or Flem to do the passing bit. Malky and Flem also learnt to sit deep which actually suited that particular team. In the event, he then didnt get caught in a 1-on-1 situation as often. Eventually, Malky became a rock because we made sure we set the team up to suit his strengths and not to exploit them.

Sound familiar? With Nelson, I really don't beleive there is much difference between him and Malky if we can coach Nelson to play to his strengths. The Admiral's strengths are virtually the same as Malky's.

All credit to the Admiral for the way he has come back from such a low on the opening day. And I liked his celebration today also. Cheeky!
