Good to see some positive thinking
Mind you, what other thinking can we have? The ref has done us with 4 shocking decisions, the 2 penalties, the disallowed goal and the foul which led to Diop's free kick (although that WAS a cracking shot). Second half we were gone, so can't complain from that point on. He also booked Helveg for absolutely nothing.
Anyway, enough of that. For next season we really have to sort out the midfield and the defence. Shacks will be OK but I'm really wondering about all of the rest of it. Flem has gone in my opinion (great servant though he has been) and I'm just not sure about Helveg and Drury. Probably Drury will be good enough, but I think Helveg will go, so we need a right back, a left back for cover and a good centre back. The middle of the park is complete crap, even for the Fizzy. Safri will be OK, but we need 2 strong midfielders to help him out and to get something going in that area of the pitch. If we can get money for Francis, we should take it. I don't go along with the idea that he doesn't give a toss, but I do wonder if he's properly recovered from that injury. The front 3 pick themselves as long as we can keep them, and I think Fizzy boots are being quaked in even as I type.
If Green goes then I'd like to see Gallagher get a run. I haven't been impressed with Ward, but Scottish sources reckon that Gallagher's OK so let's see. If there's not enough confidence then we need a new keeper if Greeno goes. It seems to me therefore that we have to be looking at 5 or 6 players coming in and that's without thinking about getting replacements for Eddy, Charlton, Svennson, Johnson, Holt, Mulryne and McVeigh, assuming they all go too. And I think that means we've got to spend the parachute money and anything we get on player sales in order to strengthen.
That also assumes we don't bankrupt ourselves trying to get back. (I don't think we will bankrupt ourselves as the Board got too much cense for that). Then we have to look at Jarvis, Henderson amd maybe Crow coming through. I can't say I'm over impressed with Henderson, but give the boy a chance, and I still think Jarvis has enough talent to come good. I don't know enough about our youth and reserve teams to know if any other young lads are coming through. Rossi Jarvis, Halliday.....?
Finally, we have to get right behind the Board, the Management and the Team from the off next season. I don't think it's going to be easy as I reckon there's a good 12 teams will fancy getting to the play offs at least, and the likes of Leeds, Leicester and Wolves may be much stronger next season than they have been this. However, we've got plenty that they will all be envious of, so lets get in amongst the bastards from the start, play them all off the park and look forward to a great night in May next year when the trophy is paraded round the City again.
