I am half way through readerising the book at the moment.

It is very very very good at being very very very bleak. Actually, "bleak" isn't right, it's depressing. If it gets any more depressing I might have to have a little bit of a blub eventually. I'm expecting that there will be a shiny moment where one of the good facets of humanity shines through, hopefully sooner rather than later. Then, probably there will be a downright tragic bit - but what I'm thinking of has been a bit telegraphed, right from the start, so it probably isn't that - too obvious.

It is terrifically well written, though - I'd never read any Cormac MacCarthy before. It's sparsely written, but very powerful. Not very long either - slim volume with larger than average typeface for a paper back. The kind of thing you could reasonably tear through in one long sitting if you wanted. I've had to put it down for a bit of a think and a cheep up a few times though.
