My hotmail account has been hacked into twice in last few months

How can people get my password? Why would they bother sending this junk from my account, as if anyone would believe or act on the crap posted?

Anyway, does anyone know if this is just a hotmail issue or if all emails are equally susceptible? What is a better free email provider? (I won't use yahoo though)
