I could see the point of the TdF touring Europe in 1992, for example, even if it was a bit contrived. Is it some anniversary of a historical Italo-Dutch liaison?

You'd have to go through Austria or Switzerland, Germany or maybe France and Belgium to get to Holland. Are they taking that route back to Italy?
