By playing exhilarating football. Graham Taylor didn't either - his record in club management was sensational, yet Watford collapsed under him in 2000/1 in exactly the same way. And if you've built an entire squad to play physical, power football, if the wheels fall off, you've got nowhere to turn.

Plenty of other managers have been found out tactically over the years, incidentally. In my view, Mike Walker unquestionably was: it was already happening here shortly before he left, then took a third of his first season back before it happened again.
