The debacle that is the clubs dealings in the transfer market this summer......
i am wondering what has happened.
Many are blaming Worthy, and yes, he has to take some of the blame. But why has he not strengthened like he said he was going to?
I quote Worthy shortly after the Fulham defeat " I will be looking to replace any players that leave and be looking to add one or two more because in the Championship you need a big squad cos your playing games midweek and at the weekend" or something along those lines anyway. I was feeling very optimistic about our chances of regaining promotion after i heard Nigels comments and had envisaged us selling Green and Francis and collecting about ?4-?5 million for them both which would boost Nigels existing transfer kitty which i had assumed would be in the region of ?2 million. I had assumed as we were following the "Charlton model" then the club would have budgeted for relegation and then in order to make ourselves a force in the Championship the following season to regain promotion the board would have put aside a couple of million for Nigels transfer kitty.
What i am wondering is did Nigel make that statement assuming that he would be given a kitty by the board but then only to find when he had his meeting with board shortly afterwards that they had tightened the purse strings right up?
It appears that this is what has happened, with Nigel having to resort to selling Jonson in order to give himself a kitty.
Yes, Nigel has to take a fair proportion of the blame for the clubs apparent (at this stage anyway) poor dealings in the transfer market but if Nigels hands were tied and he was not given a kitty then can he be blamed for not bringing in the quality that we need?
I am somewhat perplexed as to why Nigel has no apparent kitty, given as the club say we are following the Charlton model, ie to be prudent, budget for relegation and then regain promotion to the Premiership but come back there stronger. To come back stronger to the Premiership means coming back with a better squad of players and to get better players means spending money. What is going on? Surely NW should have been given a transfer kitty upon our relegation to prepare the squad for a promotion challenge and return to the Prem?
Your thoughts?

- Agree 100% - especially as it was the stated club policy to replace any player who left. (n/m) (NCFC) - Kirrie, Aug 31, 19:37:50
