PCs shutdown slow when the are waiting for a program to close...
Do as Dave suggests. Load msconfig and stop all startup programs under the Startup tab.
Restart your PC to ensure nothing in the startup group is running and try shuting down.
If it shuts down quickly you can assume one of the programs you stopped from loading is causing the problem.
You can then re-enable one program at a time, restart your pc and try shuting down again.
An aternative is to select hidernate from the shutdown list as this should ensure your PC shuts down and boots up faster.
