It is you who has missed the point by giving an example unrelated to what I'm talking about - many music obsessives like to love bands that not many people have heard of, yet as soon as people start to hear of them and their singles are played on the radio they go off them quick sharp. I've seen this happen BEFORE the next album has been released.

It goes without saying that those people instantly decide they don't like the next album because of course "it's just commercial s**t now"
