Further to that - look down, say, today's posts and see how many new users there are.

People you genuinely believe to have registered for the first time and joined the conversation (so to speak) in the last year or so. You won't see very many at all.

I was chatting to someone who doesn't post on here very often for exactly the reasons you suggest, and we realised that it wasn't the in-jokes that put people off - interminable as they might - but the tedious bickering which seems to be sparked but almost anything, and immediately drags any fun out of using the forum.

The only thing that keeps me coming back is the fact that, a few years ago, this site used to be really good FUN, and sometimes still is - but to the newcomer, it really must look like an embarrassingly childish procession of borderline-incomprehensible fighting.
