There was a bit of both from the teachers

I mean (1) real brutaility and (2) of a sexual motive as mentioned by KDDD.

One of the priests who taught before I was a pupil was featured in the Dublin Times for acts against children and the headmaster when I was there had a criminal records for some mysterious offences in Ireland. I only found about the head teacher a few years ago, the crimes were not a secret, what they were was not revealed.

The PE teacher was a paedo, but got away with it as far as I know. There many stories of him, nothing proved of course. He did sexually assault one of the boys in the year above in the toilets of a tube station, but didn?t know at the time who he was touching up. Unsurprisingly the boy got no further grief from him. This guy was a Catholic, but not a priest.

Much of the brutality was given out, was in my opinion, in the name of God and nothing more than that. At that time very few parents dared to question a priests motives so many of them were unchallengeable (if that?s a real word).

Overall, the priests discipline and beatings were worse than the teachers who were not priests.
