sounds like.......
"the heating up has been caused by the s**t backwards wiring in the old socket" - mainly cos everything now works (without blowing a trip switch or fuse i assume - please go check your fuse board!) PLUS on the hairdryer in question the pin isnt heating up anymore. Please plug in and check other appliances, like a bed side light - anything overloaded will blow the trip switch or fuse...... once you're happy everything seems fine, just leave something plugged in and on, but monitor it for say 30 mins-1hr to ensure theres no heating up or anything "pwoper norty" happening.*
