Weird about the sound

Disk Utility is your friend (in the Utlities folder, which is in the Applications folder). If you boot from the OS X CD you can do a Repair Disk too. You might want to try the 'verify' options first. To boot from the OS X CD, put it in the CD drive and use Startup Disk in System Preferences to select it and then restart.

You could also download Onyx, which is a free maintenance utility. Unfortunately, the 10.6 version is beta only: User Posted Link You could also try Cocktail and Xsupport; but I think you ultimately have to pay for those. Try Disk Utility first though.
