For Windows, I think you'll find other music managers with more features than iTunes

and they may even support syncing with an iPod; but you'd need iTunes to update it.

Those Creative music players that camcan mentioned do get good reviews; but I bought one for a friend and it broke within months.

Most people who get iPods seem to love them; but their one weakness seems to be that the battery is not replaceable without returning it to Apple. And some don't rate the headphones
