They're not lying per say just bending the truth
They are using the popularity of cider to sell perry which is essentially exactly the same as cider but they use pears instead of Cider.
It's a subtle but important difference.
Imagine if Larger was massively popular but stout wasn't so popular. Then some young marketeer at Guiness decided to stop refering to their drink as a stout and started refering to it as a Caramel malt Larger.
Guiness drinkers would be like WTF?
