A needly thing to say.

I am utterly ambivalent about patriotism and nation - but I do find this country's middle class guilt about flag waving both interesting and curious - perfectly summed up by the use of the word 'unfathomable'.

Actually I have no idea what vehicles occupy laybys of autobahns and autoroutes but when I'm in Europe I do so an awful lot of national flags and it does make me wonder whether the same anxiety about nationhood exists elsewhere or whether its just us.

A hoary old chestnut I know - perhaps it merited your rather lazy sixth form barb.
