That's the thing - we think "already got one of those". Not "none of the 430 of those I've already got is that precise shade of lapis lazuli which would really compliment the dress I'm about to buy".

C.f. our approach to shopping: we want an X, we go to a shop where they sell X, walk in, pick it up, buy it, and go home again. Not scour the entire county for places where things a little like X can be found and browse the lot over three afternoons (before buying the same one you or I would have bought in the first place).
