someone i work with is a ref though - he's as high as running the line in the Blue Square i believe - ought to pick his brains more often
i think all pundits and commentators ought to be made to learn the rules too - it's from them that most fans seem to get their knowledge of the rules from and when they get it wrong, fans get it wrong and it's then that refs take the bulls**t from the fans even when they're making correct decisions
