Gunny
I'm a bit disappointed at the amount of people completely writing off Gunns abilty as a football manager.
I'm getting a bit fed up of hearing that he has no experience blah blah blah we all know that is a given. But every manager has to start somewhere and be given a chance to prove themselves.
In my opinion Gunn probably deserves a chance. Yes he has made some mistakes along the way and ultimately we have been relegated. The assumption is that if we had brought in an 'experienced and proven manager' mid-season we would have stayed up, but this would not have neccessarily been the case.
In a very short space of time, Gunn managed to wheel and deal quite well. He has brought in a young, talented non league striker and succeeded where Roeder failed in getting in a big targetman in the shape of Alan Lee.
My point is maybe given time Gunn could build a squad capable of mounting a League One challenge. Butterworth has worked all his coaching career in Leagues One and Two so he will have good knowledge of the lower Leagues and with John Deehan heading up the scouting I hope we will start to invest in young, hungry players (which Gunn is keen to do hence the emergance of Daley and Smith in recent weeks). Finally, many many posters on here have in the past championed him for the role of manager and by all accounts he is a very good coach.
I expect I will get the usual responses accusing me of being 'happy clappy' or whatever. I'm not saying that Gunn should automatically get the job but I think given time to build his own squad he may be able to do a good job for us.
