I was kind of highlighting more how

solid chunks of money were handed out to him to spend on players

More so than before, ie, he could bring in 3-4 players at 500k or so, and that could make a difference, as well as the usual odd free signing

When that paid off, it was great for us. But when a season under him didn't yield that kind of money, we struggled. ie 2002/03, he didn't have that much to spend, and we didn't follow through with the season before, and we trickled through to an 8th finish

2003/04, was largely the same, and before the arrivals of the loan players, results and performances were getting worrying (Forest away 2-0 was quite depressing)

The huckerby and crouch loan changed that, and with that, along came the support to buy hux, as well as svensson and mckenzie

My point wasn't to mock all the signings, more to highlight that he, in the main, tended to get monetary support. On top of that though, at the time, and to this day, I'll never understand his logic of signing Earnshaw. It was a spectacular error, and one that's rippled on into our troubles now

How any manager could ignore many positional issues here and then blow 3.5m on a small striker, to then have him on the bench at away games because desperational long ball was being played

I could try and think what it would have been like if Worthy stayed, but he had just lost it really. I have a feeling that Huckerby and Crouch delayed him losing it, and without them, he'd have been found out in the 03/04 season, but the saving players arrived
