Problem is Chelts......
My Grandfather was a Polish Officer. When the Russians invaded Poland, he took his troops, command, whatever they were and flew to England. As he was 'of rank' they gave him status. He then commanded a fleet of Lancaster Bombers against the Germans (he never blamed Russia, or Italy for that matter) and fought. The sad thing is he never became a 'commisioned officer' as he thought it would go against his principals of leading 'british people'. When he we were young, I showed him a picture of the cockpit of a bowing 747 and he lit his cigarette and said 'amazing'. When he died, (my Dad sais he was never well because of the war' he was married to the forces, the RAF, that was his life and although he loved his 3 sons, he could never forget what he was. I suppose war is not romantic, i know RAF high Wycombe becasue my uncle was Base Commander ther and now is an 'Air Commordore'. Such great memoreis of playing Badmintion and 5-aside football, squash. People knock the forces, but, I wish I had joined, to me, as a bloke who has had his troubles - to anyone - Must be an amazing education, yet ultumately - you have to kill and that is why I could never ( all those years ago ), done it. Happy being who I am. Andy :)
