Still Top Division
And on it goes. West Ham and Sheffield United may have settled the Tevez affair but Neil Warnock and the Blades players relegated in 2007 are not yet willing to let the matter drop.

"The players' claim will continue. We have made correspondence with West Ham's lawyers as recently as the end of last week," players' lawyer Chris Farnell told The Times. "As far as I'm concerned, I should still be a Premier League manager. And I think the players have a case, too," concurred Warnock as he spoke to The Daily Mail.

One of the strangest aspects of the Never Ending Story is that when an independent commission looked into the issue last year it even summoned journalists such as Henry Winter to provide their opinion on whether the Hammers would have been relegated without Tevez and reputedly even included Gary Lineker's conclusion on MOTD in their considerations. Will something of the same sort occur if Warnock's claim that he ought to "still be a Premier League manager...and the players have a case too" is brought forward?

Market forces exist even in football and the fact that no Premier League club has employed - or, as far as we are aware, sought to employ - Warnock since Sheffield United were relegated after winning just 10 of their 38 games in the 2006/07 campaign is, well, arguably instructive. Of the 16 players on duty that fateful May afternoon when defeat at home to Wigan condemned the Blades to a return to the Championship just two - Phil Jagielka and Michael Tonge - have since been employed in the Premier League.

"We deserved to stay up," claims Warnock. But the fact is that, despite beating a West Ham side in mid-April that included Tevez, the Blades were relegated with 38 points. They did lose 1-0 at Upton Park in November but Tevez's influence was limited to 65 minutes and presumably he was not an influential factor in the Hammers preventing the Blades scoring.

Apart from that, we can see Warnock's point.
