Doherty in red card let-off

Tottenham defender Gary Doherty has succeeded in overturning his controversial red card in the 1-1 draw with Everton.

But referee David Elleray is refusing to rescind the red card handed out to Gus Poyet in the same game.

An FA spokesman said: "The sending-off will be expunged from the record of the player after Mr Elleray advised that he had been harsh to dismiss Gary Doherty."

"But the referee has not recommended anything in his report of the Poyet sending-off.

Two-footed lunge

"Tottenham have appealed against it, however, and so it will go before the video panel."

Argentine full-back Mauricio Taricco is also awaiting a verdict from the video panel.

His two-footed lunge - missed by Elleray in the same match - gashed midfielder Thomas Graveson's ankle so badly that he needed more than 30 stitches.

Taricco is likely to be banned for three matches if the panel recommends an FA charge and he is found guilty.
