I've been given a new lap top, and windows firewall blocks me from loads of things

I can't even load up IE or msn messenger

I've turned it off and it's still blocking it (guessing there could be another firewall running)

Either way, I can only access the net through firefox and can't get on the windows update site (even in firefox)
