My elder daughter played - she gave up at 5 years old

They under nines were playing a British Bulldog game in practice - dribbling a hockey ball with a few tacklers in the middle. Because Gemma was so little the big kids were told to leave her alone and not tackle her.

When there was only a couple left Gemma got tackled by this huge eight year old kid who charged up to her, knocked her over, and smashed her hockey ball over the other side of the pitch.

She did a huge blub, and told me she was never coming to hockey again and that was it.

Good news though - she now plays golf, and hits it miles
