Are you to be the new assistant manager?

You should know, if so, that in the old days when we used to stand in the River End (or Reeves End as we amusingly called it in those far off days) there were a couple of Dickheads used to stand near us. They continually mixed up my mate Ken, a Hibby, with me, a Jambo and how we laughed (not).

They always, as many fans do, add the ending "y" or "ie" to the end of everyone's name. So there was Gunny, Dixxie, Chippy, Linni (that would be Linighan to those not in the know) Stringy (the then manager) and of course your good self Butty.

One of the two actually suggested, when you were on the ball that you should"chip, butty". The sad thing is they had no clue as to what they had said. And anyway, stout chap though you were, I never recall an occasion of you chipping.

You may wish to rethink your application as those two old buggers are bound to be on your welcoming party.

Oh, and me as well.
