I don't think it was taken out of context.

You can get away with having a massive ego if you back it up on the pitch. Bentley didn't - he had one amazing game against Bolton, and one good free-kick v Man Utd. His habit of shooting on sight whenever possible was nearly always counter-productive, and his performance against Fulham was an absolute disgrace.

The interview gives off a persistently arrogant tone, as if Bentley thinks that playing for Norwich was some appalling thing that he was unfortunate enough to have to do on the road to becoming the new Bergkamp.

And it showed in his general play, which (more often than not) looked lazy and disinterested. Compare him to Kieran Richardson at WBA, who was just as explicit about the fact that his loan spell was a route to the Man Utd first team - Richardson's play was inspirational and he did more than anyone to keep them up.

I appreciate Bentley was often out of position but then so was Hucks on the left and he coped well enough.
