Ok, so how do I work this out

The father in law has just bought a new 52" flat screen, so giving us his old one to replace the even older one we already had.

Who am I to complain, HD flat screen!

What I dont know (due to my girlfriend asking the wrong question) is how big the screen is.

Apparently it is 40" wide. My current screen is a 37" making it 32" wide, any ideas how big a 40" wide screen is in normal wide screen measurements.
