the thing is that this is nothing new and it predates Roeder. Excluding the finances the two biggest problems we have are the failure to develop our own players, and our record of wasting money signing poor players. Unless we sort those two issues we are bound to go down sooner or later.
In terms of the Academy I don't actually buy the geographical argument, but I am inclined to accept that the Sammy Morgan effect is unwinding and we may now begin to see players coming through again.
Signing players is problematical, and Roeder has said that there was no proper scouting in place prior to his arrival, so again if he has sorted that there are grounds for hope. I accept that a couple of the loans seem to be w**kers, but, off the top of my head, I have been impressed with all his permanent signings. What does worry me is our record of signing players who aren't physicallu up to it. Thorne, Chadwick, Lappin and now Lupoli. Surely we can work this out beforehand, or perhaps Mick Dennis is right about the inadequacy of our medics.
And personally I think the players do look motivated - but we keep condceding soft goals - no matter who plays for us and who coaches them - and we can't take our chances. Why that is I don't know.
