Christmas Conundrum

Ok, it's got nothing to do with Christmas, but it's been happening to me for years and I've never thought to ask the Wrath.

Whenever I take my car to the bottle bank at Tesco the car "left your headlights on" alarm goes off when I open the door even though the headlights are definitely turned off. It doesn't happen anywhere else. Moreover, the same thing happened with my previous 2 cars.

Any explanations from the mechanically-minded?
