do you think that the polizei DELIBERATELY shot dead a man whom they knew to be innocent?
I don't. They f**ked up, of course. But the guys who pulled the trigger were doing their incompetent best. They honestly believed that they were dealing with a suicide bomber. They were wrong, and if the people above them had exercised better care they would not have made that mistake. But they were not CONSCIOUSLY doing the wrong thing.
The aftermath has been an utter disaster. The police have told so many lies it's just incredible, and that has continued throughout the inquest. Shameful.
But the basic point remains that they did not deliberately kill someone innocent, and any verdict which suggested that they did would have been wrong. That was why the coroner was right to restrict the verdicts open to them: there was just no evidence to support any such verdict.
